DJ HERO

Most of us are familiar with the popular game Guitar Hero, and have probably heard the spinoff of the game, DJ Hero. There are two versions of DJ Hero, the standard version which features The Beastie Boys, Grand Master Flash and many more popular dance anthems. The second version features popular hip-hop/rap songs and includes two limited edition CDs by Jay-Z and Eminem. The DJ Hero: Renegade Edition might cost more than the standard edition, but it is a worthy investment.

Wisdom Successor

Wiz Khalifa is somewhat an unknown artist in the rap game so to speak. Recently he released his second album "Deal or No Deal" after parting from Warner Bros. and releasing it on Rostrum Records. My favorite song on the album is "This Plane." It features upbeat and catchy beats with southern and rock n' roll influence. Overall, Khalifa is not my favorite rapper, but he does have talent and is worth checking out.

Song: This Plane
Artist: Wiz Khalifa (Young Khalifa)

What a shock

Last Tuesday Timbaland released his second studio album "Shock Value II" which was quite a disappointment. This album received a lot of hype before being released because of the amount of fame and talent that Timbaland possesses, which is why this album is such a disappointment. Yes, it has a few songs, but it is nothing compared to his previous album "Shock Value." I would not recommend buying the album, but I would suggest to check it out.

Tracklist:
1) Intro (featuring DJ Felli Fel)
2) Carry Out (featuring Justin Timberlake)
3) Lose Control (featuring JoJo)
4) Meet in tha Middle (featuring Bran' Nu)
5) Say Something (featuring Drake)
6) Tomorrow In The Bottle (featuring Chad Kroeger & Sebastian)
7) We Belong to The Music (featuring Miley Cyrus)
8) Morning After Dark (featuring Nelly Furtado & SoShy)

GaGa Monsta

Releasing her deluxe album "The Fame Monster," Lady GaGa has become a very popular artist in today's music market. She gained national fame with her song "Just Dance" and later "Poker Face" and most recently her song "Paparazzi," all off of her album "The Fame." But on Tuesday she released "The Fame Monster" which is a deluxe version of her The Fame, containing eight extra songs. Several of these deluxe songs are quite good, and definitely secure her popularity for the next year. The songs include:
1) Bad Romance
2) Alejandro
3) Monster
4) Speechless
5) Dance in the Dark
6) Telephone (featuring Beyonce Knowles)
7) How Could I Die
8) Teeth
BONUS ITUNES TRACK:
9) Bad Romance (Starsmith Remix)

On the same day, Beyonce released three new tracks to her album "I Am...Sasha Fierce." Not as good as Lady GaGa's new album, this EP extends the domain of Beyonce and also promises another single. The songs include:
1) Video Phone (Remix featuring Lady GaGa)
2) Why Don't You Love Me
3) Poison

Attention: Deficit

"Attention: Deficit" is the first studio album by Wale that is available for purchase on iTunes. I have been looking forward to this album for many months since I learned it was being released today. I have to say, I am very disappointed. The final product was not what I was expecting it to be. Wale released several singles in the time before his album was released:
1) Chillin' (featuring Lady GaGa)
2) World Tour (featuring Jazmine Sullivan)
3) Pretty Girls (featuring Gucci Mane)

Album Tracklist:
1) Triumph
2) Mama Told Me
3) Pretty Girls (featuring Gucci Mane)
4) World Tour (featuring Jazmine Sullivan)
5) Let It Loose (featuring Pharrell)
6) 90210
7) Shades (featuring Chrisette Michele)
8) Chillin' (featuring Lady GaGa)
9) TV in the Radio (featuring K'naan)
10)Contemplate (featuring vocals from Rihanna)
11)Diary (featuring Marsha Ambrosius)
12)Beautiful Bliss (featuring Melanie Fiona & J Cole)
13)Prescription
Bonus Tracks
14)My Sweetie
15)Center of Attention

Overall, the best songs are Beautiful Bliss, Chillin', World Tour, and Pretty Girls, but the rest of the album is not as good as expected.

It has been many years since dr. dre's last album The Chronic 2001. His album D.E.T.O.X. has been highly anticipated and several tracks have leaked on the internet. From what I have heard, it is classic dr. dre and is bound to sell out soon. Can't wait for the release.

Classics / Nowadays

People are always looking for new music, they are always looking for something different than the normal, but sometimes you need the norm, and sometimes you need the CLASSICS. These are oldies that have sentimental value for many of those who were alive when they came out. For the rest of us who where born after their release, they seem to represent the past, what music used to be and its influence on today's music.

Classics:
Thugz Mansion by 2pac (remix with Nas aswell)
Changes by 2pac
Juicy by The Notorious B.I.G.
Da Funk by Daft Punk

Back in the present:
Some things never change, what is rap really about? Drugs? Sex? I like a rapper who has good flow and whose songs sound good, but I admire a rapper who raps about other things more personal to them, that is when they become more than just a face, they become an artist.

Artists:
Consequence
The Game
Nas
Ratatat (DJ)
Wale

somewhat different (lol)

another good one

Who Says?

We all know John Mayer, young, talented songwriter/guitarist who has gained fame from his well known albums Room for Squares and his latest Continuum. Recently, he has released a new single called "Who Says" which features the same chord melodies and simple sounds of his other songs. Soothing and calm, this new song reminds me of a lot of his other work. John Mayer is one of my favorite artists.

Song: Who Says
Artist: John Mayer
Genre: Rock
Album: Battle Studies (release date November 17th)
Rating (out of 10): 8.5
Recommendation: CHECK THIS SONG OUT!!

Featured Song

This weeks featured song is World Tour by Wale featuring Jazmine Sullivan. This is the third single released by Wale in anticipation of his upcoming album "Attention: Deficit." One of the better rappers of today, though he is not as publicized. This song is one of his better songs and Sullivan gives a nice touch. The only down side is that the chorus has the same lyrics as one of Kanye West's songs.

Song: World Tour (feat. Jazmine Sullivan) by Wale
Album: (Released Nov. 3rd) Attention: Deficit
Artist: Wale
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

The Blueprint 3

Tomorrow marks the release of Jay-Z's newest album The Blueprint featuring popular artists such as J. Cole, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Alicia Keys, Young Jeezy and much more. This album is classic Jay-Z, having an older rap sound which consists of a repetitive beat. From what I listened to, it's pretty good, worth buying when it comes out. The first single released from this album was D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune) and the second single was Run This Town featuring Kanye West and Rihanna. I would definitely recommend checking this album out tomorrow.

Album Only?

Recently I have been noticing that iTunes has a feature that is interesting and inconvenient, album only songs. If you purchase the entire album you will get one or a few songs not included on the actual album, and these songs cannot be purchase individually. This feature annoys me at times because some of the songs that are "album only" are quite good. I decided to purchase these albums, not only for these album only songs, but they did play a role in the purchase.
These albums are:
Here I Stand by Usher
Paper Trail by T.I.
Ready by Trey Songz

Another song to check out is Heartless by The Fray, an acoustic version of the original Heartless by Kanye West. This song is a well done remake of the original, and quite frankly better. It is worth checking out.

Song: Heartless (Swinghouse Session)
Artist: The Fray
Genre: Rock
Album: The Fray Live: iTunes Pass
(also included in this album are exclusive songs and videos only on iTunes)

Embeds

Hi Y'all

Sorry for being non-existent lately, but here are my recent picks:

A bunch of good music has been released since my last post, including Watcha Say by Jason DeRulo. This song has the classic pop sound and is enjoyable to listen to. With a steady beat with the classic break-up song lyrics, it caught my eye. Definitely worth buying. Here are some other songs I found recently:

All Eyes On Me by The Clipse feat. Keri Hilson
La la La by LMFAO
Memories by David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi
Successful by Trey Songz feat. Drake
Digital Girl (Remix) by Jamie Foxxx feat. The-Dream, Kanye West and Drake

Classics:
I Luv Your Girl by The-Dream (Remix also featuring Young Jeezy)
Where You Wanna Go by David Rush
Without Me by Eminem

Honorable Mention: Cobra Starship
Released their third album "Hot Mess" last month featuring songs with Leighton Meester and B.O.B. Their album is well written with clever lyrics and beats that flow. Every song on the album is worth listening to, infact buying it is a good investment, in fact its a great CD to listen to in the car on the way to school or work.

CD: Hot Mess
Artist: Cobra Starship
Genre: Alternative
Rating (out of 10): 9
Definitely worth checking out

Belated New Tuesday

In the last week or two I have descovered the song "Chillin'." The song is a rap single by the up and coming artist Wale, Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, and features popular artist Lady GaGa. It is the first released solo by Wale that is reportedly going to be on his debut album "Attention: Deficit" due out on September 22nd of this year. The song has a nice beat to it that makes you want to sing along. The only bad part is that the content is about, yep you guessed it, money and cars.

Song: Chillin'
Artist: Wale featuring Lady Gaga
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Rating (out of 10): 7.5
Suggested purchase: Maybe

Song of the week

Tuesday Song of the Week is:

Maybach Music 2 by Rick Ross featuring T-Pain, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West. This is the best and most publicized song off of Rick Ross' most recent album Deeper Than Rap. The song is a follow up to his previous song "Maybach Music featuring Jay-Z." Both songs are addressing the current battle of words between Rick Ross and 50 Cent, which has been going on for about a year now. The song speaks about how 50 is not as, lets say, cool, as Rick Ross and that he turns away night clubers and girls because of the way he appears to be a gangster but really is a "wangster aka wanna be ganster" as they say. The song over all has a good beat and the lyrics, despite their insulting nature, have a kind of sync to them that makes the song sound like it was put together well, and overall, is the best song by far on the cd.

Song: Maybach Music 2
Artist: Rick Ross (featuring T-Pain, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West)
Album: Deeper Than Rap
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Rating (out of 10): 8

In My Absence

Due to the many months that I have been out of touch with the world of music, I have missed many good songs and artists.
The newest album that I have purchased is Deeper Than Rap by Rick Ross. To rate this album and begin my new segment "
Album of the WEEK," I would give it a 6.5 out of 10 for a few reasons.
1) There are only 6 songs, out of 14, on the album, because of this the album lacks something that many good albums have, depth. Because of the lack of good songs, the album doesn't have keep my attention long enough to listen to the entire thing.
2) Some songs feel empty, like no time was put into the making of them, and the only songs that actually appeal to me are the ones that have popular artists featured, which should not be the case. Being featured in a song of a popular artist like Rick Ross should increase you exposure, but this can only happen if the song is worth listening to, which is not exactly the case in this album.

Album: Deeper Than Rap
Artist: Rick Ross (featuring T-Pain, Akon, Nas, Gunplay, The-Dream, and more)
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Rating (out of 10): 6.5
you should: check it out

NEW TUES:

Today's featured song is Bagpipes from Baghdad by Eminem. Just like I said, I am featuring one of Eminem's new songs from his newest album, released today, called Relapse. There is much talk surrounding this album, for it is rumored to be his final album.

Bagpipes from Baghdad is a story song about his relationship with Mariah Carey. After they broke up she married Nick Cannon and he is also featured in the song, which he was very mad about. Eminem talks about how it wants her back and Cannon doesnt deserve her.

Song: Bagpipes from Baghdad
Artist: Eminem
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Rating (out of 10): 7.5

REMIX's:
surfing itunes today I noticed that a lot of popular songs have remixes, one good example of this is boom boom pow by the black eyed peas. They released an album of only remixes on itunes. Feartured in their songs are Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, and Gucci Mane, and many more.

Another remix that I think is good is Because of You, by Ne-Yo featuring Kanye West.

On another note, tomorrow is the release date for Eminem's new album, which is rumored to be a story album, like Green Day's album 21st Century Breakdown, and their earlier album American Idiot. Because of the release of his new album, one of the songs on the album Relapse will be featured on tomorrows NEW TUESDAY.

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

New Tues:

Pending Eminem's new album, he has released a few songs, including his NEWEST song: Beautiful

I got this song from itunes today and I have been listening to it since then. It features another song as an intro, and goes right into him rapping after that. It has a smooth beat and clever lyrics, like all of Eminem's songs.

Song: Beautiful

Artist: Eminem

Rating (out of 10): 7

Starting today, every Tuesday I will recomend the song that is on my mind, old or new.
